Purpose of Establishment

In today’s world, we hear about the “Internationalization of Rural Areas”, making it impossible to overlook how important it is hold open exchange between people, things and information with foreign counties in our everyday lives. In the past, most international relations were the problem solving measurements conducted on a countries’ politicial and economic level. Currently, however, a wide spectrum of groups from the local government, private enterprises, nongovernment organzitions and even private citizens are able to hold international exchange events.

As you may know, Gifu City aims to be an international convention and international fashion city. Furthermore, it holds sister city relationships with Florance City, Italy, Hangzhou City, China, Campinas City, Brazil, Cinncinatti City, USA, Meidling of Vienna City, Austria, and Thunderbay City, Canada. We currently are developing dynamic activities in the fields of education, culture, industry and economy. Moreover, we are planning to go above and beyond to overcome the current tribulations of international exchange to create a more complete international relationship.

We are also extremely involved with the many foreign residents from many different countries and believe that foreign exchange events should not be between only large government organizations, but should be between many citizens and groups in every area and on every level. Through participation and cooperation in a broad range, it is our hope all citizens of Gifu City are able to join together to promote a localized international exchange. Within Gifu City, there are around 60 different international groups, and abroad we have around 20 groups and citizen volenteers that deal with our sister city relations on the grass roots level. Through these international exchange relationships, Gifu City is made strong with the ability to support internationalization and contributes in international goodwill.

1989	August　4th	First Annual Gifu City International Exchange Promotional Conferance
	September	Gifu City recieved designation as an “International Exchange Town” from the Ministry of Home Affairs
	October　30th	Second Annual Gifu City International Exchange Promotional Conferance
1990	June　11th	Third Annual Gifu City International Exchange Promotional Conference
	July　2nd	Proposal for the establishment of the Gifu City International Exchange Juridical Foundation
		・The acknowledgement of the founding prospectus and validation as a donation-based organization
		・setting of assets, business plan, budget plan
		・Officials assigned
1991	February-August	First and Second Gifu City International Exchange Meeting
	March　25th	Receive permission from Gifu Prefectural government
	April　1st	Registration for the Gifu City International Exchange Juridical Foundation completed
	April　25th	First annual Meeting for the Board of Directors
	October　24th	Fourth Annual Gifu City International Exchange Promotional Conference
1992	February 21st	Fifth Annual Gifu City International Exchange Promotional Conference
	March 4th	Our Future Plans for International Exchange in Gifu City
1999	April 1st	Name changed to Gifu City International Exchange Association Judicial Foundation and board of trustees established
2012	April 1st	Name changed to Gifu City International Exchange Association Public Utility Foundation
